How To Know Your Are A Certified Classic Car Junky

by Chuck Buddy

Classic car junkies are all over the world. Are you one? How do you know? Check out this list and maybe you can see what you really are!

Visit Classic Car Classifieds

1. If 3 car shows in one day is just not enough

Hey if you are like me, you absolutely cannot stay away from car shows. I am like a bomb sniffing dog when it comes to tracking down the local car shows every weekend. I like to take my classic out to every one of them and pine over the ones I don’t have.

2. If the roar of a 289 Mustang motor makes you salivate like Paslov’s dog

You might be a “Classic car junkie!” Hey, I am one of you guys. I love those old Ford Mustang motors, and much like the famous dogs that Paslov tested, I, myself, do have a bit of problem salivating when I hear the roar of a classic car motor.

3. If your idea of a vacation is chasing down cars in barns in remote areas Can’t resist the temptation to go all over the countryside to view the rotting old classic car muscle just wasting a way in barns? You got it bad, eh? I do too, and to be able to find one of those nuggets in countryside of America only proves I am a junkie, literally!

4. If your House Has More Miles On It Than Your Classic Car

Hey nothing against mobile homes, but it is funny when you see a dude with $100K plus classics hanging around a garage and then look to find he is living in a trailer or an RV like cousin Eddie on the movie “Christmas Vacation.”

5. If Fewer Than Half Your Cars Actually Run.. and a Majority are Older than Dirt

Hey, I am like you. I sometime bite off more than I really can chew. If your back yard (or even front yard if you are really red neck), looks like a classic car junkyard, then you may want to consider the fact that you are addicted to classic cars. You mean to restore them all, but your grass is telling you another story!

Think long and hard about your “addiction.” It might not be as bad as it seems. You can always “get on the horn” and show up with your friends at the local BBQ for a fine meal and create memories that will last.

Who provides you with car insurance quotes on the Internet?

by HoTMeLter

The Internet has introduced every person with access to a computer to a more efficient way of obtaining car insurance than ever before. This phenomenon is amazing but very few people are using it to its full potential. Instead of finding a cheaper provider via gaining more car insurance quotes, drivers are simply renewing their high cost policy and missing out on around 500 pounds per year extra in their pockets!

Mrs Harding in a prime example of this. She has a 2007 Jaguar XKR and had always faced high premiums until she started looking around. She compared all of the available deals and eventually found one that enabled her to save 384 pounds by switching from the same provider she had been with for a few years to Churchill after choosing to search via an aggregator site, which is better known as a comparison site.

Mrs Harding is one of many drivers that have saved money via car insurance quotes from comparison sites. The amount of information you have to put into the form is largely dependent on the aggregator you are using, but you can get between 10 and 100 car insurance quotes just by inputting your car make and model, postcode, registration, age and no claims years, amongst other details.

Aggregator sites make the process of obtaining quotes extremely easy. All you have to do is fill in one form to obtain a whole range of quotes to compare.

That is not to say that aggregator sites do not have disadvantages because they do. For example, it makes it easier for a driver to just compare price and take the cheapest policy out without actually looking at the policy. Some features that are considered essential by the individual driver may just be left out. Also, aggregators do not ask all of the questions required to formulate a quote so the price you are given is just a guide price instead of a definitive quote.

The final insurance quote direct from the car insurance company (passed from the aggregator) will often be more because they will ask more specific questions relevant to their insurance. Mr Bennett is a prime example because he obtained an aggregator quote on his Vauxhall Corsa 3 door. The original quote was for 394 pounds, but he ultimately had to pay 479 pounds on account of his lack of garage and defunct car alarm. The aggregator asked about neither.

It maybe best if you just want to use a household brand name insurer to use the aggregator to compare only these quotes. This may save you a little time but probably not that much.

Contacting the insurer directly could therefore give you an advantage. You know what you are getting and how much for right from the start.

Auto Insurance Companies in Northern Arizona

by Sandy Maseko

It doesn’t matter if you have just passed your test or you are a seasoned driver, ensuring you don’t pay more than you need to for your auto insurance is important as the cost of owning a vehicle continue to rise. What type of auto insurance you actually end up with will really be down to what type you actually need despite the large range of policies available. Some of the components of auto insurance are bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments coverage, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, comprehensive coverage, and collision coverage.

At one time, trying to obtain a quote directly from an insurance agency was hard and then the internet came along. Many web sites have been set up to give auto insurance premium comparisons including all the pertinent features of the insurance policy. If you’re interested in slashing your auto insurance bill in half then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider purchasing insurance online.

To make matters worse, the cost of your auto insurance can be based on many different aspects including where you live, where the car is parked, how much power the car has and even the cost of repairs. One thing is for sure though and that is if you live in a big city, your auto insurance will cost more than if you live in the country. While getting auto insurance does add to your annual expenses, you can usually cover the cost of the premiums with convenient monthly payments.

Insurance specialists always say you should get a free auto insurance quote from a different source, well in advance of your current policy running out. For some individuals, giving up their fast, high risk vehicle might be necessary as the comprehensive auto insurance premiums can be very high unless they decide to go with a more basic insurance plan. Comprehensive insurance does have its benefits though, in particular when it comes to paying for medical treatment or time lost from work even if the policy holder was to blame for the accident. In addition to these, passengers in both vehicles, although not blood relations, are covered by this type of insurance plan.

When you switch is very important and the best time to switch to a new auto insurance company is when the current policy is about to expire. One thing to note though is not to cancel your policy from your old auto insurance company until the insurance is actually in effect with the new insurer. You would also be wise to check and see if you can reduce your insurance premium further by combining your home and auto insurance policies with the same company as many give discounts for this. Knowledge is a powerful tool and ally when searching for low auto insurance premiums whether you have been driving for 30 years or have just passed your test.

A Bumpy Ride for Budget Rent A Car

by Peter Wilson

Budget Rent A Car is a name widely known in the rental industry. It has been around since the early days of car rental and one of the first to target travelers on a budget (hence the name). The company has had a bumpy ride and seen many ups and downs but the name and company values have remained. Here is an overview of how this company has survived.

Budget Rent A Car was the brainchild of Morris Mirkin who established the business in Los Angeles in 1958. He started the business with just $10,000 and only his wife and himself as employees. He only had a fleet of 10 cars but with a 4 dollars a day and 4 cents per mile rate, his rentals were popular for their value.

Budget was doing good business but Mirkin wanted rapid expansion and knew that to be successful he needed to have a number of locations. Funding was provided a year later by his relative, Jules Lederer. This enabled the company to create a leasing company and increase its fleet. Lederer and Mirkin established Budget Rent A Car Corporation in 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. The company started to rapidly expand both nationally and internationally.

The 60s and 70s were a very successful time for Budget. Like many companies in the industry, they moved their location to the airport so it was more convenient for travelers. They maintained their low rates to attract the budget-minded customers and they gained about 20 percent of the leisure market every year. They also increased their market reach by attracting smaller businesses and medium size corporations.

The 80s and 90s were a rough time for Budget Rent A Car. The company changed hands a few time and profit rose and fell. A tax credit law was repealed in 1986 allowing rental car companies to exempt taxes on new car purchases. A management restructuring took place and many car rental companies felt the financial blow. Despite this upset, the company was taken public in 1987 and had an initial offering of 3.2 million shares.

Changes continued in the late 80s and 90s. Budget was bought out for 3.3 million by various corporations and taken private again in 1987. In 1997 it was bought by Team Rental Group and changed its name to Budget Group, Inc. and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Things seemed to be looking up with expansion worldwide but by 2002 sales of public stock dropped and the company was de-listed. Budget was forced to sell most of its assets.

Today Budget maintains its name and corporate identity but is now a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group. Budget Rent A Car has almost 2000 car rental locations from Atlanta, GA to the Alicante airport and is again listed on the NYSE.

How to Hire a Car in Spain

by Jerry Blackburn

When you go on holiday it can be difficult to travel around, personally I think that the easiest way to travel around the Costa Blanca is to hire a car from the Airport. A car allows you much more freedom and flexibility when travelling around the area. This also allows you to travel around without having to rely upon public transportation. If you want to travel around the area a lot then you may want to consider hiring a car.

You can hire a car from Alicante airport, or from most popular cities. If you are travelling to the area during the summer months then it’s a good idea to book your car early so that they don’t run out. It’s a good idea to reserve your hire car at the same time as your flights so that you have everything you need for your holiday at the best deal possible.

Finding the best Torrevieja Car Hire Deal

The easiest way to compare prices of hire cars is by looking on the internet. You can use this to get quotes from a number of different companies. Many websites will allow you to compare each company’s offerings side by side.

Make sure you are comparing like for like, bear in mind the total package, not just the price. Some prices may seem expensive, however they may have many extras which makes them a good deal. Make sure that you read all of the fine print and ask any questions if you don’t understand. Additional extras may be quite expensive, so it’s worth asking before booking.

When you are dealing with the larger car hire companies you should also phone the local agency based in Torrevieja. Most have staff which can speak English among other languages. You might be able to get a better deal than you were able to on the internet, you’ll never know unless you ask.

Things to Consider when Renting a car

You need to think about how many people you are taking with you, how big will the car need to be? The least expensive size of car is the economy size. These are also cheaper to run as they do not use as much fuel. If you have a larger group then you may need to consider getting a larger vehicle.

Economy cars are the most popular cars that they have, you should reserve an economy as soon as possible. You can always upgrade this fairly easily at a later date if needed. If the company doesn’t have enough economy cars then they will quite often give you the upgrade for free.

Also think for how long you will need to keep the car for. Some companies charge a weekly rate, while others will charge a daily rate. Normally the daily rate works out to be more expensive than the weekly rate if you are keeping it for longer than a couple of days.

Dollar - A Big Player in the Rental Game

by Kurt Schefken

Dollar Rent A Car is a company that is well known in the car rental industry. There are more than 650 locations worldwide with more than 350 of those in the US and Canada. They have survived the ups and downs of the industry and are today a leader in the car rental market. They have been first in many aspects of technology, especially with the internet. Here is a brief history of this successful company and how they are able to prosper.

In 1965 Dollar Rent A Car set up its corporate offices in Los Angeles, California. While that may seem like a long time ago, car rental companies existed long before that; Avis got its start 20 years earlier. Since Dollar was going up against the established rental agencies, it had to promote itself as something different. Its marketing was not just aimed at the business traveler but also budget minded vacationers. It also touted its high level of customer service.

Dollar Rent A Car marketing strategy worked and not only were they able to survive against their rivals but they soon grew and expanded their operation. Though they started late in the rental game, they were able to establish themselves and compete against the other car rental players.

Chrysler’s Involvement

Chrysler Motors was looking to expand and promote the new Pentastar Group Chrysler - a network of rental car companies. In the early 90s Chrysler purchased Dollar Rent A Car along with Thrifty Car Rental and General Car Rental. Chrysler wanted to enter the rental car business as a way to promote their cars. They hoped that if customers rented their cars they’d be more inclined to purchase a Chrysler vehicle.

Since Dollar and Thrifty were established rental car companies, they retained their name and corporate image. General Car Rental merged with Dollar Rent A Car so their client base and number of locations greatly increased.

Dollar Rent A Car Today

Today Dollar Rent A Car continues to exclusively rent Chrysler vehicles - a sign that Chrysler’s plan has worked. Its marketing is geared towards vacationers who are looking for a bargain but due to its low rates and numerous locations, Dollar also attracts business travelers. They have a large customer base and a large number of repeat customers part of their loyalty program. With locations such as Atlanta, GA and the Murcia airport, car rental is a breeze.

Booking with Dollar Rent A Car

So the next time you need to rent a car, why not rent a Chrysler vehicle with Dollar? Chrysler has many models ranging from compact to luxury. Visit Dollar’s website or call their reservations department to make a reservation. You’ll see why their low rates and service standards make them an industry leader.

Gps Tracking Systems: Convenient and Flexible

by Brad Seabourne

GPS tracking systems utilize a network of geosynchronous satellites in orbit to determine the location of an object or person down to a few feet resolution. GPS tracking systems were initially deployed to assist the military in locating targets of value as well as in navigation. In recent years, the price of GPS hardware has decreased, while the military has suspended the degradation of the signal, allowing more accurate placement for civilian use.

The technology of GPS has been of great benefit to companies for keeping track of the vehicles within their fleets and also providing a way for drivers to be more efficient in making deliveries and estimating time of delivery. GPS tracking systems for vehicles have even been useful for finding the best way for drivers to get to their locations.

One of the negatives that has come about more recently is invasion of privacy. As these devices are used more and more frequently in our lives, they will continue to present these challenges. Truck drivers were among the first to be tracked and their movements are now analyzed as well. Spies have long known that GPS tracking can be very effective in tracking the movement of individuals.

GPS has become a consumer tool as well; several new tools allow laymen to use GPS systems to plan hikes, find locations for fishing or camping, and find their way around unfamiliar places. Commercial GPS devices have given rise to “geocaching,” a pastime where participants search for hidden items using their latitude and longitude coordinates.

GPS tracking systems have also allowed the development of a new automotive add-on, the in dash GPS receiver allowing consumers to request a location and have the device display or speak directions to the driver, making the paper map obsolete. These devices are already increasing in complexity and adding new features including hotel and restaurant information.

The use of GPS for various purposes will likely increase as the cost of devices continues to decrease. GPS technology is very flexible and can serve as a replacement for current technologies such as paper maps, and may play a role in future advances. Perhaps in the future GPS tracking will allow us to know the location of all of our possessions at all time, making theft and loss a thing of the past.

A Look At Sports Car Insurance

by Sandy Maseko

There has never been a time when it has been easier for the average person in the street to own a sports car, but most people are put off unnecessarily by the maintenance and insurance costs. Something as special as an exotic or high performance sports car requires sports car insurance, a sector dedicated to these powerful machines. Most sports car insurance policies will provide comprehensive insurance which covers damage to property, costs for legal representation, liability and of course medical expenses.

Each driver’s sports car insurance premium is calculated individually, partly using their previous driving record, for obvious reason. For instance, every vehicle has an insurance rating which is primarily based around two areas; its power to weight ratio and the cost of replacement parts. However, there are many other factors which will affect your sports car insurance premium, one of which is the drivers previous insurance claim record. Insurance companies will also investigate other areas concerning the car itself for instance, where the driver lives, the time it takes for a car thief to break into it and how effective it is in a collision. Even the drivers age, number of years driving, gender, profession and credit history can affect a sports car insurance premiums.

An obvious factor in sports car insurance premium costs is the fact that sports cars can accelerate very quickly plus travel at high speeds and with so many accidents being caused by excessive speed, insurance companies are keen to ensure high performance car drivers pay for the privilege. Unfortunately, insurance figure show that it is the luxury, high performance sports car sector that has the highest risk of accident damage. Of course that does not include the number of these vehicles that are stolen or subject to vehicle fraud.

The best way to get competitive sports car insurance is to shop around and research information from insurance companies who are specialists in this area. Otherwise, saving money on sports car insurance works in much the same way as saving money on any form of insurance, be a good driver and keep a clean record. Some sports car insurance companies restrict the number of miles that can be driven in any single year to reduce the annual cost or if you are only an occasional driver you can specify a low mileage to lower the premium cost. If the car is of very high value, the insurance company may even stipulate that an engine immobilizer is fitted and possibly even a vehicle tracking system. Fortunately in an effort to assist their customers, most sports car manufacturers have arranged their own sports car insurance plans which are usually competitive but they will usually only provide this if the owner does not have a poor driving record.

If you are lucky, your search may lead you to a sports car insurance broker who will be able to find the best rate for you and may have insurance claims and legal experience for when things go wrong. Before you finally insure your sports car, make sure that haven’t been changes made to the engine and handling characteristics that could affect the outcome of your insurance application.
