Making a Wise Decision when Buying a Car

by Eric Jilson

This situation probably has happened to everyone: You’re driving along the road and you notice that your car doesn’t sound all that good. Before you realize what’s happening, your poor car takes its last gasps on the side of the road. You need a new car.

Television ads tell you that you need a new car. Although a new car does sound appealing, you’ve also heard from friends that buying a new car is a better idea in the long run. You’re faced with a tough decision. This article will look at the positives and negatives of buying new and used vehicles. This will help you pick the vehicle that’s meant to be yours.

The Glory of New

There’s something powerful about the looks of a brand-new car, all the way from the tantalizing smell to that shiny new paint. In this consumer culture, a new car is a symbol that tells everyone you have made it. There also are other benefits to buying a new car rather than a used car.

Positives:

Most new cars do have good reliability. The warranty also will likely cover any problems that do crop up. Buying a new vehicle also means that you shouldn’t have to worry much about how the vehicle was treated before it became yours.

A number of companies also have roadside assistance for new cars. This gives you peace of mind and can save you the expense of getting a roadside assistance program on your own.

New cars also usually have the highest fuel-efficiency standards and the newest safety features, like side-curtain airbags. You may also find a good financing program with either no interest or low interest rates. This can make it less expensive to buy a new car than it is to buy a used car.

Negatives:

Without a doubt, buying a new car is expensive. Most new cars cost more than used cars, and they depreciate very quickly in value. A new car loses the most value during the first few years that someone owns it.

The difference between what you paid for your car and what it is now worth can be substantial. According to the Kelley Blue Book, the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) for a 2007 Ford Focus two-door hatchback is $14,335. The resale value for the same car is $11,995. The value has dropped about $2,300 just for driving the car off the lot.

Buying a new car therefore means that you are getting more debt and losing value more quickly than if you had bought a used car. You’ll also be paying more for car insurance than you would if you had bought a used vehicle.

There are also issues to think about on a deeper level. Buying a new car can contribute to the culture of consumption and not the culture of frugality. If you buy a new car, some would argue that you are buying into the consumerism culture. This can be an expensive proposition.

New cars also don’t stay new for very long. You eventually will find your first nick or scratch. Eventually, the floor will be stained, the doors will have dings, and you won’t have the thrill of having a new car. Your monthly payments will last much longer than your shiny new car.

A Humble Used Car

Although “pre-owned vehicles” - what the car dealers like to call a used car - don’t have the mystique and “shiny” factor of a new car, they are hard to top as a practical financial move. Buying a late model car with few miles can be a bargain seeker’s dream.

Positives:

Buying a used car helps you get the most amount of car at the lowest cost. A late-model used car often costs less than half the cost of a new car. Some dealers’ pre-certified programs come with good warranties. They often include the balance of the factory warranty and the opportunity to buy an extended warranty. Low-mileage, late-model used cars are almost new. You probably don’t notice the difference between a used and a new vehicle if you trade in your car every few years. Most modern cars can go 100,000 or more with few problems. You could probably get 60,000 more miles on a car with 40,000.

You can also buy a used car for only a few thousand dollars if you don’t have much cash and are willing to take a chance on a used car. Buying a care that needs a little tender loving care can cut the amount of money you need to spend on your “new” car.

Negatives:

Some used cars still have the stigma of being unreliable. There may always be a fear of buying someone else’s problem because you don’t know how its last owner treated the car, or why the last owner traded the car into the dealer. Even if the car is fine, you still need to perform maintenance sooner than you would on a new car. That maintenance will include radiator and transmission flushes, new tires, and new brakes.

It also may be difficult to find a used vehicle with the features you want. You also will have fewer options if you buy a lemon. Lemon laws usually only apply to vehicles under a certain age.

New or Used?

You should make your decision to buy a new or used vehicle based on many factors. You should be comfortable with your various financing options, as well as any long-term consequences. You need to feel safe and buy a vehicle that does not add much to your allowable monthly expenses budget and is reliable for your needs and . Your “new” car also needs to meet your requirements for amenities and features.

The Hydrogen Fuel Car Is Eco-Friendly.

by Malc Moore

A lot of things today can be obtained in an instant, you can find instant food, instant houses, and a lot more. Did you realize you can also convert your car and get it running by using hydrogen - oxygen fuel technology? Well you can, and once you convert your car, you will have a hydrogen fuel car.

Maybe you’ve heard a lot about hydrogen - oxygen fuel cars, these vehicles are regarded as the cars of the future. If you hope to have your own hydrogen fuel car, you’d probable have to buy a home kit.

These fuel cell kits may be easily purchased locally or on the internet in many major online stores. The home kits can help you in converting your car into a hydrogen powered vehicle. In the US alone, you can already find hydrogen fuel cars roaming the streets.

There is a choice of companies producing hydrogen fuel kits for cars, and you will have to be well-versed to pick a kit that is high in quality yet sensible in price. When all is said and done, you’ll use the car each day, and its built-in system should function correctly to prevent any problems. Prices for kits vary widely in price between $150 and $200. This is small money compared to purchasing a brand new hybrid car that costs about $20, 000.

If you just use hydrogen fuel car kits, you’ll use only water to give the car even more power. Certainly you’ll need some gas, but only a limited quantity. Water, in contrast, can be obtained nearly anywhere, and scarcity isn’t an issue. What other reasons are stopping you from having your car converted?

Because the cost of the kits are within reach of the average person, it is obvious that there are more pros than cons in deciding to convert to a hydrogen fuel car. If you want to decrease your gas expenses, this is the right way to do it. Besides that, if you are also interested in the environment, you’ll wish to use hydrogen fuel since it doesn’t give off any harmful carbon emissions.

If you are considering a conversion of your vehicle to an alternative fuel but are not quite certain and maybe on the fence, gather all the information you can from the many information resources online. You may be a bit overwhelmed with the idea of a hydrogen car, but be assured that after your online search you will be convinced that hydrogen cars are real and very cost effective.

As long as you’ve purchased the hydrogen fuel car kit, you will only need some cheap tools, know-how, and access to H2O or water. You can be at ease knowing that all the necessary items are in the kit. As long as you follow the instructions carefully, nothing an go wrong.

Simple Ways To Improve Gas Mileage In Your Car!

by Don Marshall

Recently, it seems like the oil barons are out to empty our wallets. Gas prices have gone up threefold, along with everyday necessities, while our economy slows to a crawl. Most people are just trying to keep their heads above water, and need to learn some simple methods to improve gas mileage.

There are several methods that help to improve gas mileage, some of them that are very effective, and others that really don’t make too much of a difference. It can be a bit of a pain trying to sift through them all, so I have gone to the trouble of finding the most common methods people are using right now to improve gas mileage, so I could pass them on to you.

First, change your oil, and get tuneups on a regular basis. Most people realize that if your car is tuned up and running like a top, then the energy used will be less than if your car has mechanical problems. Some basic things like changing the air filter, deteriorated hoses, and oil changes using the properly weight oil with friction reducers will all make a difference and improve gas mileage.

Another thing that works well, is getting rid of extra weight in your car, like luggage racks that can create resistance, and decrease your MPG. Keeping your tires at maximum air inflation can also help decrease resistance. Even if the the MPG gain is fairly small, every little bit helps!

Another way to improve gas mileage is by exercising some self control. Drive at slower speeds. Try cruising on the highway at 55 mph, instead of 65 or 70. That will increase your gas mileage by as much as 25%. Keep in mind that also includes no speeding when the “police” aren’t looking! You can also gain 14% in MPG just by using your car’s cruise control.

Resist the temptation to drive like a crazed maniac, like excessive braking or quick acceleration. Those bad habits burn up fuel, wear out your brakes and waste your dollars. The same goes for unnecessary idling. If you have a long wait at a fast food drive through, or at the bank, turn your car off while you wait. Cutting down on unnecessary idling can up your gas mileage by a substantial 19%. That is a big savings just for doing something simple like turning your car off for a few minutes.

So many simple methods to improve gas mileage, and not enough space to cover them all! Just implementing even one of these can help you save money.

The Importance Of Train Horns To Safety

by Yves B. Geller

Train horns have been in use as long as have locomotives. They are used by engineers to alert motorists and pedestrians that the train is nearing a crossing, to inform passengers that the train will be departing the station and of course, to clear animals off of the tracks before a train comes through. Train horns are used by rail company workers during switching operations and when performing track work to let approaching trains know of their presence.

When internal combustion began to power the locomotives, the air horns from trucks were used but were not loud enough to be heard over the powerful diesel engines that the locomotives were using. The truck horn design was then upgraded by the railroad company, using oscillation to push the air through a power chamber and vibrate against a nozzle. The position of the diaphragm will allow more air or less air and the constant oscillation of the diaphragm creates waves of air that causes it to produce the sound of the horn. The North American locomotives that were manufactured before 1990 still used the old manual pull cord technique that was known as feathering, which just meant modulation was possible for the horns loudness. During the 1990s locomotive began using pushbutton controls and a pedal was built into the cab below the floor and when the pedal was pressed, it sounded the train horn.

In the past few years, train horns have become a sort of fad with many vehicle customizers for their own personal trucks and vans. Train horns are not manufactured for private use because people know that when they hear one there is usually a train coming, and if a train horn is used in normal traffic it tends to cause accidents, and in many places, it is against the law to operate a train horn. Train horns themselves have even come under scrutiny as some communities have developed quiet zones, and the engineers were instructed only to sound the horns in case of an emergency. Because of these laws, many automobile and pedestrian accidents have happened. With the speed of a train, and the amount of weight behind the engine a train hitting and automobile is like a truck running over an aluminum can, the can will be flattened.

The patterns to the sounds of train horns have different meanings depending on the rail company, as well the country.

In the U.S., the standard signal given by train horns at a crossing is two long horn sounds, followed by one short and one long. This pattern is repeated until the train has passed the crossing. In Florida, there was a ban on the use of train horns in many locales; however, this ban was lifted in only a few years because of the greatly increased rate of train accidents.

Even though a lot of people find the sound of a train horn to be an imposition, they have an important safety function and can save lives. Because of this, it is likely that quiet zones will become less and less common as more people understand the important function performed by train horns.

Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle rally 2008

Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle rally 2008

We all know that when the first settlers came to America they where following a dream! What most do not know is that many of those dreams where inspired by paintings of the Catskill Mountains. At the beginning of this country’s history artists where mesmerized by the beauty of these mountains and painted many pictures of them. These pictures where sent and sold all over the world and they had a huge part in creating what later became know as the American dream.

Fast forward a few Hundred years to September 10Th - 14Th 2008 and now what draws hundreds of American Bikers every year to the Catskill Mountains is the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham and the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally. This event which is a weekend get away for some and a week long party for others has just about everything a biker dreams of. Even though the Blackthorne Resorts grounds are huge, they do fill up fast and Bikers reserve there Cabins, RV sites or Camp sites up to a year in advance just to make sure there is room for them on the grounds. (There are plenty of other resorts in the area who welcome the Biker overflow from the Blackthorne) Me and my Brother Mopar Tom arrived on Thursday Night and the first thing We did was to check out what seemed like a hundred vendors, Who where selling every thing from Motorcycle T-Shirts to Custom Motorcycles. Then of course it was time to grab some drinks. First drink was at the Tikki Bar by the large in ground pool. The Second was at the Blackthorne’s on premise full service bar. Not wanting to over do it on my first night there (I would save that for my second night) I called it an early night at around 2am and was off to get some sleep.

On Friday the fuse was lit and the weekend festivities got into full swing. I spent the day wandering around the Blackthorne checking ever thing out drinking and partying with Hundreds of new and old friends. As the sun went down and the Night began things just got better! I watched Bikers take their Motorcycles up in the air and do Ariel Burn outs as I listened to the Music of Molly Hatchet LIVE !

The Nights at Blackthorne Run late and the Mornings come early! Some Choose to start their days off riding around the incredible Catskill Mountains, either in a group on a guided tour or by themselves with no destination at all. The roads in the Catskills go on forever and even after many years of riding them each trip still offers something new ! My favorite spot to ride to has been for many years Nicks Waterfall House in Gilboa, In my opinion no ride threw the Catskills is Complete with out a big burger and a cold beer at Nicks!

Others who don’t wake till the afternoon can spend their day’s at the Blackthorne checking out the vendors buying new Biker gear,Watching Rhett Rotten and his amazing vintage Wall of Death Motorcycle stunt show, Looking at the art work of Ron Finch,Placing their votes for their favorites in the Bike show, participating in the Bike games or enjoying a list of many other wickedly fun Biker activities. Saturday Night again offered Bikers more then they could handle plus Female Spaghetti Wrestling, Live Ultimate Fighting bouts, Lots more live music and plenty of late night partying. On Sunday some Bikers headed home while others hung around for another day of fun including a pig roast!

I have been a biker all my life and to this day the bond of Brotherhood that is shared by bikers still amazes me. I’m not sure if the fact that the Blackthorne is a family resort every other week of the year has anything to do with it, But I found the feeling of Brotherhood and Family to be very strong at this event. When I can hangout and party with Bikers I have just met and feel like I have known them for Twenty years, It strongly reinforces all the reasons I love being a Biker!

I have left out a lot of great things about the Blackthorne and its Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally, The reason for this is because if you missed this event you do not deserve to know all its secrets until you have attended it for yourself !!! Check out CatskillMountainThunder.com and reserve your spot for next years party today!

I’ll see you there! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com

The Latest Fad In Pop culture-Train Horns

by Yves B. Geller

Extending one’s expression of style to his vehicle has always been a part of popular culture or pop culture. Although fads may be short-lived, what’s important is that ideas were expressed and shown in a unique or strangest way as possible. Car styling has been known to create fads in creating agreeable and unconventional methods of beefing up the appearance of vehicles. From window tinting to trim applications, vehicles have developed a sense of fashion depending on which trend is currently popularized. For instance, the inclusion of train horns in street vehicles inevitably roused positive and negative impressions. The fads created by train horns in pop culture appeal to the artistry, image and annoyance of various groups of people.

The conventional uses of train horns are for signaling or cautionary applications. It is once used in trains to caution its presence and proximity to stations and into sports to cue certain actions in the game proceedings. Today, deviant behaviors brought the use of train horns into custom designed vehicles. To enjoy louder, aggressive and intimidating honking down the street, some vehicle owners have replaced original car horns with the monstrous pipes of customized train horns.

Although some people may not understand why certain vehicle owners spend a lot of money in restyling and modifying their vehicles, some perceive the act as a matter of self-gratifying expressions. While having wing doors and lowered car frames and bumpers may seem sleek and original to some group, some would differ from their preferences. All of this is a matter of expressions of views towards the existing popular culture. The popularity of using train horns as truck or car horns exemplified the impact of the fad brought by train horns in popular culture.

The train horn can be used in many ways as a medium of expression. It could be used in a noisy classroom to bring about immediate silence. It can be used on telemarketers or other harassing callers, who, after hearing a loud train horn on the phone, might abstain from calling in future. It can also be used in music, blended with other instruments, especially in genres like reggae or reggae hybrid. The most popular application of the train horn, however, remains its use as a truck horn.

As is common with other fads, train horns too soon turned into a problem for some people. Those who installed these horns did so to improve the performance and the impression of their vehicles. But the sound that these horns made while the vehicles went down highways and streets was extremely loud. It came to a point where policemen were ordered to implement an ordinance against those who used train horns in place of conventional ones. The main concern was a safe drive and the maintenance of peace and quiet in neighborhoods. Train horns have become quite an unique commodity that only a few vehicles possess or can afford to possess. Although it is true that one cannot deny somebody their right of self expression, it is also true that exercising this right should not cause harm or disturbance to any other person. Therefore, in the best interest of every body concerned, the train horn should be used, but in a wiser and more appropriate way.

Can Running your Car on Water be Dangerous for your Automobile?

by Matthew J. Loop, DC

Yes, it’s dangerous ONLY IF you choose not to exercise your common sense! Hydrogen, or any fuel-related system using it is not something to joke with! Some people try to actually light hydrogen for fun and games… VERY BAD IDEA! Hydrogen will definitely explode if you put fire of any type in its vicinity and you know it will spread in no time.

All through the “Run your Car on Water” conversion system I used, there were tons of warning scribbles for all areas that have the potential to injur you or blast your auto. When it came to things like toxic glues, etc.., the conversion manuals writer placed discreet warnings that are impossible to bypass.

Since we now have that out of the way, Hydrogen-On-Demand technology is no more hazardous than traditional cars involving fuel, cooling, etc. For instance, many know the radiator is vital to cool the engine. Without it working, your vehicle would easily smoke all day!

But, if you open the radiator cap when it’s smoking hot, you will get burned, right? The problem is not in the radiator by itself, the problem is in lack of awareness and carelessness. There are simple safety rules and it’s necessary to understand and apply them.

If you choose to undertake this simple conversion of your car to make it run on water, follow the rules that are written in the tested manual. If you do this, the chances of you endangering yourself are almost obsolete. I’ve see this system demonstrated to many people every day and it’s proven to be very safe because the rules are always followed. I’ve never seen or experienced any fires, explosions or meltdowns. For maximum safety, follow the how-to guide word for word!

Allow me to provide you a real-life example. In one of the chapters on installation, you will observe that you must keep the output hose at minimum four feet in length in order to prevent fire dangers. Never cut it short even if the device is closer than four feet. Sure, this may waste a couple bucks, but saves loads of trouble! Every precaution is highlighted in the extensive “Run your Car with Water” conversion manual so it’s very hard to miss.

Important to note, Hydrogen-On-Demand and Water Fuel is not similar to stored Hydrogen! In a normal system, it uses all the hydrogen that is provided immediately. Nowhere is there a hydrogen storage tank to explode in case of a car accident. This water fuel technology has proven to be MUCH SAFER than hydrogen cars or propane gas cars and trucks.

The consumer protection pros have said time and time again, it’s not dangerous for any car. Many Americans have seen their gas mileage increase by as much as 120 percent after instituting this alternative hybrid conversion.

Using Water Fuel For Cars

by Adrian Fletcher

Given the inexorable rise in gas prices of late, water as fuel for cars is getting a closer inspection by many people. Despite what the name might suggest, an engine that runs on water wouldn’t really be running on the water itself, but instead extracting the hydrogen gas from the water to be used as fuel. By using certain specialized equipment, the hydrogen can be separated from the oxygen in water and injected into the car’s fuel lines.

There are two common methods for obtaining automobile fuel from water. One type uses hydrogen gas as a complement to your car’s engine performance (which is powered by petroleum gas). The second typed is fueled by hydrogen gas which is produced either on or off the vehicle.

Hybrid hydrogen gas systems reduce the amount of gasoline your vehicle uses thus extending your miles per gallon while also reducing your vehicle emissions, as the combination of gas and hydrogen gives a cleaner burn, zero emissions fuel. When burned by itself with only oxygen, hydrogen emissions are just water vapor.

Kits for converting to water as fuel for cars range in price from less than a hundred dollars for plans to build your own system using easy to find parts from auto parts and hardware stores, to kits costing several thousand dollars that include everything needed to convert your vehicle. True water as fuel for cars systems convert your vehicle to one hundred percent hydrogen fuel. This type of system is the most expensive and complicated to install but when you are done your visits to the gas station are over. Using much larger water holding tanks, or fuel cells with internal hydrogen processing equipment, these systems typically require much more room in the vehicle to install.

If you live near a facility that produces hydrogen, such as a hydrogen fuel station or production plant, you can get a system that has a tank where you can pump in hydrogen gas. These facilities do the work of converting water into hydrogen fuel, so you don’t have to extract the hydrogen yourself.

Auto manufacturers like as Honda and BMW will likely feature storage tanks for extra water as fuel for cars as hydrogen fueling systems are not very common. These new hydrogen/gasoline hybrid systems will actually be the same type of gasoline engines currently in use that will be modified to allow the use of hydrogen gas as fuel.

The water as fuel for cars technology or the creating of hydrogen gas as a fuel, has existed for over one hundred of years and has been used in many different devices. It is even used in outer space. Due to various technical complications and the relative ease that existed in finding oil for gasoline, not much effort has been put into hydrogen gas technology. Given the finite nature of oil and the increase in fuel prices this could very well change in the next few years. It will be many years before hydrogen filling stations dot the nation, but you can fuel your car with water for gas technology right now.

Automatic Car Alarms Help Prevent Theft

by Brad Seabourne

An automobile alarm is an audible security system which activates as a loud noise if a possible break-in is detected. Not only are these systems annoyingly loud, they also are often false alarms and consequently, often ignored. Many vehicle security systems currently exist which are much more technologically advanced.

Manufacturers have designed cutting edge technology to help reduce the billions of dollars of car theft reported annually. Using two-way communication devices, car security systems can alert you when your car’s engine has been started. Some newer systems have sensors to detect glass breakage. Others can be activated remotely and can even arm themselves passively, without the owner needing to remember to set the alarm.

You won’t hear an audible car alarm if you’re not near your vehicle. If your car is stolen while you’re on vacation, it may be many days before you know about it. Some car security systems will phone you or send you a text message if a break in occurs. A two-stage automatic car alarm can also tell you if the car’s engine is running, if the car is in motion, or if the car is stationary and has just been bumped into by someone.

If the car is in motion, then you can command the car alarm to cut power to the fuel pump, meaning the car will roll to a stop. But that may not be very helpful if your vehicle is being towed away and doesn’t need to be running. The newest generation of car security systems include GPS tracking so that you know where your car is at all times, even after it’s been stolen.

Preventing Car Jacking: Several models of vehicle security systems are now equipped with car jacking preventative mechanisms. These mechanisms allow you to turn off the supply of gas to the vehicle with the press of a button. Having this safety feature gives you options you would not otherwise have. The feature is generally activated by a switch that is near the seat belt release; when activated it shuts off the fuel supply and applies the brakes to stop the car. This features gives a person a good chance of preventing their car from being hijacked.

Frequently, these systems will alert the authorities in case of a car jacking. The majority of these systems are meant to notify the police in an expedient manner which is immeasurably important in emergency situations. Trying to catch a car thief who is attempting to steal your vehicle is quite dangerous. Your automatic car alarm will inform you via a phone call or a text message when something is amiss. You can then call the authorities and let them handle the situation, rather than putting yourself at risk.
