Ten Rules for Driving Safely

Would be drivers in the United States must go through some kind of driving instruction and pass a written exam and a road test before being given a license to drive.

But, sometimes it is hard to believe that any level of competency is required to be given a license. Take a ride for just three or four hours and you’ll count dozens of bad drivers, some extremely dangerous. Here is how to be sure you are not among them.

1. Never drive after consuming more than one alcoholic beverage. The alcohol in two cocktails will, at the very least, slow your reflexes.

2. Be sure to follow at least 2 seconds behind the car in front of you. Three to four seconds is even better,

3. If a car is following you at a dangerous distance, pull over. It may be the smartest thing you do all day.

4. Adjust your mirrors with care and be aware of where your blind spots are.

5. Don’t bet your safety that other drivers will stop at a light or sign. Always look before proceeding.

6. Note the bad drivers and take special precautions when you are in close proximity to them.

7. Be a defensive driver. Remain prepared to compensate for the errors of others.

8. Adapt to poor lighting, bad weather, rough roads or other less than ideal conditions. Drive more slowly, follow at greater distance, etc. Be especially careful when ice or snow is on roads.

9. Do not wait to replace worn brakes, worn tires, old windshield wipers, etc.

10. You should never make a driving move that requires another driver to slow down or change direction. If you do, you are part of the problem.

You can’t eliminate bad drivers, but you can avoid being one.

General Car Service and Volvo Service Tips

Correct car servicing is crucial if a person intends to enjoy a superior car performance over the long haul. As the cost of purchasing a automobile continues to increase, paying attention to good car service maintenance will permit longer car ownership. As the years go by, this protracted ownership time will help decrease the costs of vehicle loan expenses and interest charges. It’s imperative to realize how to locate a superior car servicing shop, as well as how to avoid getting scammed by unscrupulous repair shops.

When trying to discover a quality car service repair place, be sure to follow time-tested considerations on the subject. First of all, don’t wait to hit upon a stand up car servicing place until one is immediately needed. The most horrible thing is to have an accident and then be stuck going to the nearest repair place. Friends and family are a wonderful means to be introduced to a potential repair location. If they’ve experienced superior repairs, it’s a good chance the repair shop gives the identical service to every last one of their regulars. Before formulating a final verdict, though, be sure to ask for a few extra references and then ask those folks about their experiences.

Correct car servicing calls for knowledge of a few necessary maintenance keys. Pricey car service repairs can be evaded by sticking to a maintenance calendar. Be vigilant and test the oil level at least once a week. Let the automobile idle for about thirty seconds, shut off, and then wait about two minutes or so. Then draw out the oil measuring stick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and then draw it out again. This will register a proper reading of the oil level.

There are various car service time intervals to be aware of. A few key timeframes are as follows: at every 3000 miles or 3 months, change the oil. Spark plugs should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Every 6,000 miles or so, rotate the tires. It used to be normal for a timing belt would be replaced every 60,000 miles, but now some have differing intervals and owner’s instructions should also be consulted. At every 15,000 to 20,000 miles, align the tires. At every 35,000 to 40,000 miles, the fuel filter should be changed. Paying attention to car servicing timeframes such as those described above will help make sure that a automobile lasts for a long time.

Purchasers of Volvo cars must always pay attention to the aforementioned car service periods as well as checking their instruction books for proper Volvo service on their car. All Volvos should be looked at at the correct service intervals that are discussed in Volvo Service Records booklets or at one of the various Volvo dealerships. By focusing on all car servicing obligations under the hood and on the body, Volvo purchasers can keep their vehicles in wonderful condition and enjoy their driving time for a lot of years.

Another characteristic to car servicing to be conscious of are car service repair rip-offs. A set of individuals who are time and again victims of this kind of fraud are the mature. One such trick occurs when an outwardly caring person flags an older person down. This scam artist discloses to the driver that it appears as if the car calls for repairs. The scam artist then gets the auto up on the jack and untightens the tire so it will wiggle. The elderly person is tricked into providing the con artist money to mend the problem.

When transporting a car in for car servicing, recognize that some repair places will add unneeded repairs to the bill in order to increase profits. Transporting the auto to another car service repair place can aid in figuring out whether the added repairs are truly needed or not.

Owning a auto requires much more than just adding gas when the car gets low. By understanding the basics of car servicing, a vehicle can be made to last much longer than the average person realizes. Most repair shops, such as those discovered at many Volvo service places, include honest individuals. However, it’s always an intelligent thought process to invest the time to realize the car service process.

Federal Car Auctions - Tips To Get The Car Of Your Dreams

Owning a luxury car these days need not be a dream anymore with Federal car auctions.

It is common knowledge that luxury cars cost more than an ordinary wage earner can afford, but you will be surprised to know that those being auctioned at car auctions of the Federal government are in fact reasonably priced.

What makes these cars at Federal auctions affordable is the fact that they have been taken by the government because their owners fail to pay the dues they are supposed to pay, and not because there is something wrong with the car, and so instead of letting the cars rot away, the government offers these cars at an auction.

However, Federal car auctions have become extremely popular these days that competition is very strong. It is highly possible that several other people will be bidding on exactly the same car. Because of this you can expect the bid price to go up and up. Needless to say, you can still make the most of the situation and increase your chances of driving your dream car with these tips.

First, keep yourself updated of the schedule of Federal car auctions so you can have the edge when bidding to own your dream car. Although it does not necessarily mean that being an early bidder you are guaranteed to win the bid, you will be at a better bidding position.

There are pre-bid events you can attend before the actual auctions are to take place. By going to such events, you can inspect the car or cars that you wish to buy, thus it may be necessary that you take with you a mechanic who can give you professional and unbiased advice and determine if the bid price is indeed reasonable.

Finally, do not hesitate to ask about certain legal documents and papers that come together with the car you are buying. This way you can be prepared in case there would be any documentation problems to deal with.

Why I Love My Clunker

As a teen, I always wondered what sort of car I would wind up with. For a while, I hoped for something at least slightly fast and sporty. I don’t think I could have predicted that I would soon be getting around in a 1990 Honda Accord with over 200k miles in it. Yes, I own a beater, by any definition of the word.

Yes, I certainly have a beater. It is fairly reliable, working most of the time, but issues to crop up from time to time. I blow coolant hoses left and right, requiring seemingly simple yet annoying repairs to get working again. As I drive, the whole car shakes, rattles, and leaks liquid randomly.

If this is the case, why I am so glad to own this car? The reason can be summed up in a word: cheap. This car gets me around everywhere I need for next to nothing. This car gets me around wherever I need to go. It has even survived a couple long distance road trips. In short, it does everything I need in a car.

At almost no cost to me, my vehicle fills all my transportation needs. I paid under $2000 for the car 6 years ago, which is very little. Even factoring in the repairs I’ve had to do, its still amazingly cheap.

Of course, there is more to owning a car than just the cost of the car and repairs. You also have insurance to deal with. In my case, insurance is very cheap. I have the minimum amount of insurance required by law, which is quite inexpensive overall. This saves me even more money month after month.

Now, think about a new car. A brand new car would require payments, full insurance, and other expenses. While I would probably spend less in repairs, I still save a lot of money over time by keeping the clunker.

I realize that this approach isn’t for everyone. I even wish for a better car at times, but when I think how much freedom I have in my finances because of the clunker, I smile a bit to myself and continue driving.

The Basics on Cheap Trucking Insurance Quotes

The difference in price between truck insurance quotes and auto insurance quotes is drastic. This is simply because it costs more to repair or replace a truck, not to mention they are often hauling hundreds of thousands of dollars from place to place. Although it is expensive, you can easily save money compared to what you are paying now.

One of the first places an insurance company will look will be your driving record. They will check to see if you have been in any accidents or if you have had any speeding tickets in the past five years. If you can maintain a clean driving record, you will be able to substantially lower your premiums.

Most Americans find that they pay a lot for their insurance if you combine auto, homeowners or renters, and trucking. If you are looking for a way to cut your spending, you can often consolidate your policies. Putting all of your policies with the same company qualifies you for substantial discounts.

One of the best ways to save money each month is by changing your deductibles. The most common deductible is $500, but if you were to change it to a $1000 deductible, you could save around 15%. This does mean that you would have to pay an extra $500 in the case of an accident. If you don’t think that you could afford that, change it and set the money you save aside until you save $500, then keep that in your savings so if you need it you will have it.

Every time you file a claim with your insurance provider, your rates raise. This is because they see you as more of a risk if you have filed or file many claims. The way to avoid this happening is to not file for insurance help if the damages are low, or if they are close to the price of your deductible.

Not all insurance companies are created equal. Some will be able to get you great rates while others will charge you a lot. It is good to shop around to make sure you are getting a good deal.

If you don’t know what you are doing in shopping around, or if you don’t have much time, an insurance broker could be your best option. These agents don’t work exclusively with one company, they work with dozens. Because they work with so many companies, they are able to find you the best deal out there, and put you with the insurance company that can save you the most money.

Do All Car Rental Companies Offer One-Way Rentals?

Car rental companies are all about satisfying their customers, so they offer a wide array of services. Some of the services are needed and others are not. There is also the fact that there are a lot of add-ons that people may or may not need. But what about those things that you may need, but you find out they may not have? What special things do you need out of a car rental company?

Of those things that are needed by some individuals are one-way rentals. One-way rentals allow an individual to rent the car in one city, drive it to another, and then leave it at another location owned by the rental company. In other words, they do not have to drive the car back to its original location. This is great for those individuals who are moving to another destination. This is also great for those wishing to drive to their destination, but then fly, ride the train, or ride a bus back.

A scenario

Here is a perfect scenario as to why someone may need a one-way rental: Lets say that someone drives 12 hours away from home. They drove instead of flew because they wanted to take the time out to be on the road alone and enjoy the sights. However, they get a phone call that tells them there is an emergency and they need to come home as soon as possible. The only way they are going to be able to achieve that is if they buy a plane ticket in order to get home quickly. However, they have an issue on their hands and that issue is that they have the rental car and they are not sure what to do. They surely cant drive back home and make it back in a reasonable amount of time.

This is where a one-way rental comes in. They go to another location owned by their rental car company such as car rental Calgary and find out that they can just drop the car there so that they can catch a flight home.

Do they all offer one-way rentals?

As for whether or not all rental car companies offer one-way rentals, the truth is that they dont. The reason is because not all car rental companies are nationwide companies. There are smaller companies that you may find in your local area that may be a one location type of company or they own very few throughout the country. The national chains, on the other hand, they do offer one-way rentals. You probably wont find a company with locations all over the country that doesnt offer one-way rentals to their customers.

There are just so many reasons why someone may need a one-way rental that the company would be hurting financially if they didnt offer that option. Customers would simply go to another company that did offer the service. Thats how a lot of companies make a lot of money. They offer services such as this.

Dont fret So if you need a one-way car rental or truck rental, dont fret because this is definitely an option that you can take. It is nothing to be afraid of asking about. Theyre not going to look at you strange if you say you want a one way ticket to your destination. They are going to tell you where their location is in the town you are going so that you know where to drop of the car. If you need any other information regarding the drop off, you can simply ask and they will answer your questions. Just dont forget to shop around before committing to one company.
