A Guide to the Fundamentals of Car Detailing

At its basic level, car detailing makes a used vehicle look brand new. Yet there’s a lot more that goes into it than just making the car look better. Some people have actually made an art form out of the improvements they make. A good detailer can do many things and get much admiration for work improving the appearance and value of a car.

Car detailing is more necessary than you might think, particularly if you want to sell a car. You’ll have trouble getting a good amount of money for a car that looks bad, no matter how well it runs. If you take the vehicle in for detailing, you will come out with something that is much more appealing and make far more than you ever had to spend.

You shouldn’t try detailing until you get an idea of both what your car needs and what will happen to it. The process generally makes improvements on the exterior, the tires, and the interior of your car. The exterior will come first, as it makes an immediate impression and will probably be the biggest factor in appearance. You’ll need to get a good spray painting job.

You will need to get a wheel and tire evaluation. If you’ve been washing your wheels on a regular basis, there will probably be less work to do, but if not, there will probably be some issues to address. On older cars, you’ll often see wheels with black stains from the tar that has accumulated from break dust. This is an important thing to take care of before you look at the interior.

Buyers, and car collectors especially, will want a car to look as though it was rarely used, or at least like it was well maintained. This is where your interior comes into play. You can eliminate wear and tear through detailing to completely erase most signs of damage. Once you’ve established these basic points, here are a few more you should look over.

Car detailing should typically be done in a garage or a similar area that will keep the vehicle cool and dry, away from the heat and moisture that can damage paint and wax. For your own part, you shouldn’t leave your car standing in the sun if possible and should only wash it when you definitely have to, and then moving from top to bottom.

There are few more tips when it comes to washing your car. Don’t do it the moment you’ve gotten off the road, and avoid using cold water, which can damage the engine and other hot parts. If you want to auto detail yourself, you should let the car cool for 20 minutes and then get rid of any extra wax on the outside of the car before you start.

There’s a lot that goes into car detailing and you will have to put in time and work. All this effort will pay for itself, though, when you see the results on your once old - and now beautiful-looking - car.

Easy Tips to Protecting Your Cars Leather

One of the nicest features of a luxurious vehicle is its supple leather seats. Keeping up with your car leather protection will not only help keep the value of your vehicle but will give your vehicle’s leather a luster that lasts for many years. The protection process is really very simple and in a minute you have see three main tips that will ensure the beauty of your car’s leather. Preventing the wear and tear of daily use is really as easy as one, two, and three.

Leather protection products are easy to find these days. It is up to you which you will use and most of them are really quite good. You will need to use a non-drying leather cleaner for removing daily grime from your seats. Once you have properly cleaned the leather it will need a coat of a good rich conditioner designed for leather. This will replace the precious moisture that will keep the leather of your seats supple and comfortable.

Products with natural ingredients listed are usually the best choice because they are safer. For instance, ingredients such as mink oil, UV protectants and lanolin are excellent. Spending a little time protecting your car’s leather by keeping it cleaned and conditioned will be far more cost and time effective than leaving it until you need to do a restorative procedure. A combination product might be a good option for you as it combines the steps.

The leather of your car is much like the skin of your body. It needs to be cleaned and moisturized on a regular basis to prevent it from becoming permanently cracked, aged looking and dried out. This will happen much quicker in areas of the country that have very hot temperatures.

Tip No. One is the cleaner that you choose for your leather should be a product that does not contain any solvents, silicone oils or gloss agents. When you apply the cleaner you should use a soft scrub brush but do not scrub the fabric but gently agitate so that the pores of the leather are opened to be cleaned and then be able to absorb the conditioner that replaces oils and moisture. Only use a soft t-shirt or terry cloth towel. Paper towels will scratch the leather.

The second tip is to select a product that has a balanced pH factor listed on the ingredients. This will not only prevent stains but will protect the leather from water damage. The leather contains natural oils that will evaporate over time if they are not replaced with conditioning. If the leather begins to have an odor it means that the natural oils need replacing.

Tip No. 3 to consider: The sun’s rays will do damage to your leather so using a ’sun-block’ on the leather will protect it. This is especially important when it comes to the convertible. A good solution is to alternate between the leather conditioner and a 303 protectant for sun protection. Try not to park in direct sunlight and use a windshield sun protector.

Keep these simple tips in mind and spend some time on a regular basis protecting the leather of your vehicle and you will have leather that remains supple and comfortable for the life of your vehicle. Car leather protection does not take long and is well worth the effort.
