What is more important than the kind of gauges that you have in your car is the ability of you to read them and understand what to do in response to them. In a day and age of increasing distractions while driving, it is important that you do not let the instrument panel become one more distraction that will cause you to get in an accident. Not looking at them at all is not a smart choice, so when should you look at them. I would suggest that you look at them at a red light, when you are essentially alone on the road, in straight parts of the road and when you are traveling at slower speeds.

It is not a good idea to look at the dashboard during heavy traffic times when there are a lot of cars close together traveling at freeway speeds. It is also not good to look at the gauges when you are in stop and go traffic or you are traveling in a pack of cars. Remember that safety comes before the condition of your car.
